Back in May a connection referred us to Kottke & Brantz for some branding work. They’re a law firm in Boulder with a long history of serving the community, and they needed a fresh look without too much fanfare, something modern that fit their image, but no need to go over the top with marketing materials. So after getting some basic info about their time, budget, and the branding assets they required, we decided to offer them our Starter Pack. It seemed to fit well within all the project constraints and meet their needs.
As it turned out, they didn’t even need everything we offered in the Starter Pack and we wound up cutting it down to just the logo and business card. Our work for branding always starts with black and white sketches because at some point you’ll need both a white only and a black only version of your logo. Making sure the mark stands out for both in the beginning not only keeps design process simple, but it safeguards you from having to redo work or make additional changes when you’re further along in the process. Here are the initial logos we came up with.
Normally, we’d just present these three options and let a client choose one, then move on to colors. But this time, after seeing our first pass, the team had some clarity around the direction they wanted to take the branding so we did a full round of new designs with a much more specific direction. We came up with these three options the second time around.
In the end, they did wind up asking for some edits and additional assets that we don’t often include in the Starter Pack, making it more of a custom offering. It was simple enough to tack that on as hourly work though. You can see the end result here.
Overall, the team at Kottke & Brantz (big thanks to Jocelyn for spearheading the project and being super professional and friendly) was really easy to work with. They provided us clear, concise and timely feedback and were really receptive to our suggestions in return. Collaboration went as smoothly as it can go and we’re all really happy with the final result!
